Itinerary for a Quick Weekend Getaway to Blacksburg, Virginia

I’m a Hokie. I graduated from Virginia Tech in December 2010. Dan spent 2 years in Blacksburg as a child when his pops was in Graduate School at Virginia Tech in the 90’s. Blacksburg will always have a place in our hearts. At four hours away from DC, it makes a nice place to return to for a weekend. We left early Saturday morning and spent 1 night in Blacksburg in late May.

Our trip in a nutshell:

Hotel: Red Carpet Inn Blacksburg – $70/night, clean, comfortable, close to downtown and very nice staff. Unfortunately, the days of crashing on friends couch are long gone. It’s been years s

Hike: The Cascades

Food: Cabo Fish Taco for dinner and margaritas. The Cellar (basement bar) and Rivermill for beers. Lefty’s for breakfast.

If we had more time, we would have loved to hit up a couple more of our favorite spots (like Sharkey’s, the New River, West End Dining Hall, McAfee’s Knob) but over the years I’ve come to realize that setting unrealistic expectations for a trip itinerary is a surefire way to come out disappointed. For trips like this, always go into the trip knowing that you will be back. See you soon Blacksburg.
